Biodiversity.now

Biodiversity.now (A) is a multidisciplinary course, suitable for everyone interested in biodiversity issues. The course approaches the basics of biodiversity, the reasons for the ongoing biodiversity crisis, and its consequences for nature and society, presented by experts in various fields. The course encourages critical thinking on one’s own action in halting biodiversity loss and becoming part of the solution.

Learning goals:

  • to recognize reasons for the ongoing biodiversity crisis and its consequences for human society and one’s personal life
  • to explore one’s own connection to nature and the diverse values one assigns to it
  • to recognize a variety of approaches and tools to protect biodiversity, increase biodiversity, and promote the sustainable use of biodiversity
  • to apply the issues to one’s own field of study/work and learn how to be part of the solution.

Biodiversity.now B

The course Biodiversity.now B is a follow-up course to the online course Biodiversity.now A. During the course you will get to work on a biodiversity-related project in a multidisciplinary group. The work also includes weekly reading material and discussions. All work can be done online.

Learning goals:

  • understand the concept of biodiversity, its structure and the biodiversity crisis on a deeper and multidisciplinary way also in practice
  • recognize reasons for the ongoing biodiversity crisis and its consequences for oneself and the society at large
  • consider your own relationship to nature and different values connected to biodiversity
  • recognize different approaches and measures for protection of biodiversity and for promoting its sustainable utilization
  • apply knowledge of biodiversity in your own field and learn to find solutions for the biodiversity crisis
